Vintage English Movie Posters! Your Thanksgiving free movie list is two movies long, but what movies! Unlike Halloween (that I offered you a list of 100 free scary movies here), Thanksgiving uses a different twist. Neither is likely to be specific to Thanksgiving, but they relate to some themes from the holiday. Frankly, I can enjoy these free movies for Thanksgiving and for any day in the year.

Big oil company propaganda with a heart! Just the free movie we'd like for Thanksgiving! This 78-minute semi-documentary from 1948 is one from the most lyrical American films ever made. In 1994, The Louisiana Story was selected for preservation within the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress to be "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." It is the story of a Cajun boy and his family, living for the bayous you might say of life that people can barely imagine.
The boy's family rents land on the oil company, which comes in, drills, and leaves everything the same as it was, clean and unspoiled with the exception that the family features a little more money. (Yes, it turned out funded through the Standard Oil Company.)
The boy spends almost all of his time on his narrow boat (pirogue), floating along the bayous, prime snake and alligator habitat, with his pet raccoon. He never wears an existence preserver or shoes... doesn't actually have a cell phone to speak to case he gets in trouble. There is not much story, only a celebration (in such stunning black and white photography that you could well wonder exactly what the big deal is all about color) of a way of life that is certainly no longer with us.
All of the actors were amateurs, as well as most, this became their only film. As of April 2007, J.C. Boudreaux, who literally boy, was surviving in a FEMA trailer along with his wife of fifty-five years, after Hurricane Rita destroyed their property. (source). He had a chance at fame inside movies, but he stayed where he was from and apparently knew as a kid an appreciation of family (a wedding of over fifty years) reflects why I consider The Louisiana Story a proper free movie for starters of our most family-friendly holidays.

A white and black silent film that ends having a woman being burned alive? Oh, yes, just what every family needs at Thanksgiving. But, I have three good reasons for including The Passion of Joan of Arc in this pair of free movies for Thanksgiving.
First, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was ever made. Second, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was preserved. The director Carl Theodor Dreyer (more) died convinced that the last copy have been destroyed. In a bit of weirdness that sounds more like a movie as opposed to truth, a practically complete print was discovered in 1981 in the janitor's closet of your Norwegian mental institution.
Finally, I am grateful that individuals can watch this magnificent film, on many lists with the greatest films of all time, free of charge online at Gloria.tv, a Roman Catholic video site.
Maria Falconetti (more), who plays Joan, suffered an emotional breakdown throughout the making of this film, and he or she never made another film. Pauline Kael (more), a notoriously demanding film critic, said that Falconetti's performance "may be the finest performance ever upon film."
