In the "Import" menu, select how you need to import your media. Select "From digital video camera" if you'd like to capture video directly from your camera. Select "Videos" to import videos from the folder on your computer. Select "Pictures" to import images from your computer to make a slide show in Vista's Windows Movie Maker. Then select "Audio or Music" to import files on your sound track. In the drop-down menu towards the top of the screen, be sure that "Imported Media" is selected. Browse through your video clips, images, and audio files to see which ones you want to use in your movie. You can preview your movie clips by choosing the click and pressing the "Play" button in the preview window around the right.

Before continuing, make sure that Vista's Windows Movie Maker is "Storyboard" editing mode. If it isn't, click on the arrow around the bottom left with the screen gain access to the drop-down menu. "Storyboard" editing mode helps to simplify the operation of adding movies and pictures for a movie from the "Imported Media" window.

Click and drag your images or movie clips to the Storyboard frames. Then click the arrow beside "Storyboard" and select "Timeline" in the drop-down menu. Select each picture or movie segment and drag the edges towards the left or right until they're the best length. Under "Edit," click "Transitions." Return to "Storyboard" mode and drag the desired transition towards the space relating to the movie clips. Click "Effects" and drag the effect you wish to each section from the storyboard. The star will appear within the lower left hand corner in the segment to exhibit that an effect has become applied.

Return to "Timeline" mode then click and drag your audio track to the timeline. Make any adjustments you feel are necessary to edit the video to match the songs. Select "Tools" and "Narrate timeline" if you'd like to add a narrative track to your movie. Plug in a directional microphone that works well with your computer and then click "Start Narration." Watch the "Input level" to make sure that your computer gets adequate sound levels. Keep in mind that you will need to merge your music track using the narrative track by dragging one within the other if you wish to use both simultaneously in your movie.

Click "Titles and Credits" to include titles to the beginning of one's movie or position them before or on selected clips, or to add credits to the end of your respective movie. Preview your movie by scrolling back on the beginning in the moview and pressing the play button inside preview window. Select "Publish Movie" when you find yourself happy with all the preview. Select the place where you would like to publish your movie, then click "Next." Select a reputation for the movie, pick a location and click on "Next."
